This is primarily a remote role, although some occasional UK travel will be required for client work.

You will be supported to develop project management skills through on-the-job learning, and we would expect you to quick become responsible for supporting projects independently from conception to completion. This includes creating detailed project plans, regular client liaison, monitoring budgets and regular updates of our client relationship management system.

You may also be expected to produce draft client-facing materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, draft reports and briefing papers.

Other responsibilities include elements of corporate responsibility, for example:

  • Market analysis and business development, including background research and data entry
  • Contributing to knowledge management materials, such as blogs and articles.

Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to work some unsociable hours during event periods.

About GGI

We have been at the forefront of governance, strategy and leadership thinking for more than a decade, working across the public, third and independent sectors.

GGI (GGI Development and Research LLP) is an ethical consultancy working with public-purpose organisations. We are highly respected for our independent work and commitment to changing the world through what we do. Our main market sectors are healthcare, higher education, local authorities and government bodies, as well as national sporting bodies, charities and professional organisations. Our leadership are well known nationally in our sector for their work.

We have supported significant thought leadership programmes in the public sector, such as through the National Commission for governance in the public sector and the Johannesburg-based Good Governance Academy (a global influencer), and we host the annual GGI Festival of Governance. We are actively building networks and communities of practice in key issues that are growing in importance such as population health management. We work with others, such as the University of Cumbria, where we have recently started to collaborate to build a regional centre of excellence.

How we work

Our ethos runs through everything we do. We are proud of our values which shape not just our work with clients, but the way the company is structured and run. The team at GGI is non-hierarchical and from day one you will be working with colleagues of all levels of experience. The work is professionally stretching, and your work with our clients puts you in day-to-day contact with people who lead the delivery of public and third sector organisations of all types. We are a small staff team of less than 20 and so this is a great chance to gain experience and develop in an environment where you will get to do a bit of everything as your skills develop and mature.

We support our clients by using sound, evidence-based thinking and deep knowledge of the sector to add value by what we do, often creating bespoke programmes of work. It means that whoever works for us must enjoy the challenge of variety, be flexible in their approach to clients, and be active in turning our ethos into practice always.

GGI develops significant original thinking, is one of the most significant publishers in the UK in the field of public sector governance and is continually developing knowledge through our client work.

Why is good governance important?

The consequences of poor governance can be seen all around us. No organisation, however large or small, rich or poor, is immune from it. The path from every story of organisational failure will eventually lead back, in some way, to poor governance. Whether it be safeguards not enforced, interests not disclosed, risks not managed, or simply bad decision-making, poor governance bankrupts companies, brings down governments and, worst of all, negatively affects people’s lives.

At GGI, we strongly believe that good governance can help create a better, fairer world. That’s why we work with a broad range of public purpose organisations to ensure that their governance and leadership are as effective as they can be. As well as advising leaders, boards and organisations, we also work with sectors to support their development – and, unusually for a commercial organisation, sharing our knowledge and IP for free – because we believe that better ideas and better discussions can contribute to better governance.
