A different kind of leadership? | 23 May 2023

19 May 2023

Join us on Tuesday 23 May, from 08.30 to 09.30 on Zoom to discuss system leadership and board development, in conversation with Richard Kirby, Chief Executive, Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and Aidan Rave, GGI Principal Consultant and BOB NED.

Just calling something a system doesn’t automatically make it so. Systems are by their nature volatile, unpredictable, complex and uncertain and leading them requires a series of skills that don’t necessarily transfer from being an effective organisational leader.

Our work enables us to regularly take an objective and dispassionate view of the systems we work with and within, and build a picture of what works well and what works perhaps less well. Within any system you will find differing legislative obligations, funding regimes, regulatory frameworks and – perhaps most significantly – cultures.

GGI is developing a comprehensive response to this challenge, based on the reflections and insight we gather through our work, but also through conversations with a diverse range of professionals through sessions such as this one.

We’re keen to help co-develop the thinking, alongside system partners. Systems leadership holds out the promise of maximizing the potential of not only Integrated Care Boards, but more fundamentally, of creating more effective, efficient and relevant public services across communities.

So, in that spirit, we want to take an hour to explore the role of leadership within systems and specifically how board priorities and system priorities can be best aligned to the improvement of outcomes in places.

The webinar will be chaired by GGI Director of Innovation and Principal Consultant Fenella McVey.

We hope that you will join us for what will be an interesting and insightful discussion. Should you have any questions, please contact events@good-governance.org.uk.
