Festival of Governance | Annual lecture 2022

01 August 2022

Every September, GGI invites leaders of organisations who aim to create a better, fairer world for the communities they serve to participate in the Festival of Governance.

This year is our eighth annual Festival of Governance and the theme goes to the heart of our mission. Good governance because fairer is better. Fairness means different things to different people. We’ll be asking people to work with us to define what fairness means as a possible eighth Nolan Principle.

The centrepiece of the festival is the annual lecture. Our keynote speaker this year for the annual lecture will be Dr Anjali Mazumder, the Theme Lead on AI and Justice & Human Rights at the Alan Turing Institute.

Her work focuses on empowering government and non-profit organisations by co-designing and developing responsible and inclusive data and AI methods, tools and frameworks for safeguarding people from harm – particularly those most vulnerable, building resilient institutions and systems, and accelerating the opportunity for inclusive, fair and just services, systems, economies, and communities. She is passionate about fostering multi-disciplinary collaborations and multi-sector partnerships to co-create pathways for innovation that improves services, policy, and actions to safeguard human rights and address humanitarian challenges.

Baroness Helena Kennedy has kindly accepted the 2022 Good Governance Award in recognition of dedicating her professional life giving voice to those who have least power within the system, championing civil liberties and promoting human rights.

Baroness Helena Kennedy, QC, FRSA, HonFRSE – barrister and Labour member of the House of Lords, since 1997.

She has used many public platforms to argue with passion, wit and humanity for social justice. She has also written and broadcast on a wide range of issues, from medical negligence to terrorism to the rights of women and children. We very much look forward to hearing from her at the Good Governance Institute’s (GGI) annual lecture on 22 September 2022.

Previous keynote speakers include Professor Judge Mervyn King, Lord Bob Kerslake, Caroline Clarke, Professor Martin Green OBE, Rt Hon Jacqui Smith, Imelda Redmond CBE, Rob Whiteman CBE, Lord Bob Kerslake and Professor Jaideep Prabhu.
