GGI National NHS NED Development Programme: Peer to Peer Weekly Meeting with Fenella McVey, Director of Innovation, GGI | 4 November 2022
31 October 2022
As part of its mission to promote good governance, GGI will host these facilitated, weekly virtual meetings to give NHS non-executive directors an opportunity to share their concerns, challenges and ideas as we rethink the future of health and social care.
The goal is to collectively think about the role NEDs play as part of the controlling mind of their organisations, to discuss immediate safeguarding issues and to ensure we all learn from this experience to assure better outcomes for citizens in the future. If you would like to join this meeting, please email events@good-governance.org.uk.

- Which aspects of system reform are working and which not?

- What you shouldn't ask a consultancy to do?
- What learning is there from the commercial world and industry?
About Fenella McVey
Fenella is the co-lead for the Systems and Place service line, which has supported around 15 ICSs over the past two years.
Her work has included facilitation and advice on:
- system board development
- system strategy development
- system risk management
- governance for ICP, ICB and Place and executive groups (functions and decisions maps, organisational charts, terms of reference, policies, decision examples, etc.)
- stakeholder engagement and communications.
She is increasingly supporting on system implications for ICS partners, e.g. local authorities, NHS trusts, primary care, private providers and voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations.
Fenella joined GGI in 2021, bringing over 20 years’ experience both as a management consultant and in line roles, in the public as well as the private sectors.
She brings deep experience in strategic thinking. Her work has included future world modelling, creating new business models, and developing the organisational policies, processes, and structures to support strategic change.
She is a very experienced facilitator of board meetings and team working sessions. She has a long-standing interest in agile thinking and has qualified as a ‘scrum master.’ Much of her work has involved creating frameworks and gathering the fact base to support decisions.
Fenella started her career at Lawrence Somerset, a Booz.Allen spin off, before becoming European Strategy Manager at Bertelsmann. From there she went to Prophet, leading global teams, before becoming an independent expert consultant for 10 years, where client work included global projects for GE, Samsung, and Zeiss.
Fenella has a Masters in Philosophy and Modern Languages from Oxford University. She is fluent in German and French and has a good working knowledge of Spanish.
