GGI National NHS NED Development Programme: Peer to Peer Weekly Meeting with Sir Michael Marmot 18 February 2022
07 January 2022
As part of its mission to promote good governance, GGI will host these facilitated, weekly virtual meetings to give NHS non-executive directors an opportunity to share their concerns, challenges and ideas as we rethink the future of health and social care. The goal is to collectively think about the role NEDs play as part of the controlling mind of their organisations, to discuss immediate safeguarding issues and to ensure we all learn from this experience to assure better outcomes for citizens in the future. If you would like to join this meeting, please email events@good-governance.org.uk.

About Sir Michael Marmot
Sir Michael Marmot is Professor of Epidemiology at University College London and Director of the UCL Institute of Health Equity.
In his long and prestigious career, Sir Michael has achieved so much in his work across health, social care, academia and environmental behaviour. He has been incredibly impressive at driving forward the very public setting of standards of corporate behaviour in public – especially with regards to the Marmot Review, which looked at inequalities in health across the UK.
Before becoming the Director at the UCL Institute of Health Equity, he was a member of the Royal Commission Environmental Pollution before becoming chair of the Commission on Social Determinants of Health set up by the World Health Organisation in 2005. Previously he has served as president of the World Medical Association and has authored several books including ‘The Health Gap: The Challenge of an Unequal World’ (2005).
In 2021, Sir Michael Marmot was awarded the Good Governance Award for his extensive and dedicated work on health inequalities. 11 years ago, he wrote the original review into health inequality asking for a ‘Fair Society, Healthy Lives’.
