NHS people committees | 26 January 2024

20 January 2024

As part of its mission to promote good governance, GGI has been hosting facilitated virtual meetings to give NHS non-executive directors an opportunity to share their concerns, challenges and ideas as we rethink the future of health and social care.

The goal is to collectively think about the role NEDs play as part of the controlling mind of their organisations, to discuss immediate safeguarding issues and to ensure we all learn from this experience to assure better outcomes for citizens in the future. If you would like to join this meeting, please email events@good-governance.org.uk.

To start off 2024, GGI’s unique peer-to-peer forum for NHS NEDs looks at the main board committees: audit, quality, finance and people. This event will look at NHS People Committees.

Our staff are the NHS’ most important asset and every NHS organisation is finding challenges to recruit, retain, develop and ensure the wellbeing of staff. Organisational culture too has become a specific responsibility for NHS boards in the new Code of Governance for NHS Providers. People committees have these issues fully central and most NHS trusts feel the focus on their people merits a board committee.

GGI is in the final stages of developing a maturity matrix for people committees which has refined our thinking on how effective people committees operate, but at this webinar we will hear perspectives from NHS NEDs chairing or serving on people committees.

Different trusts have adopted very different models and so this will be a great opportunity to compare, contrast and learn together.

This meeting is by invitation only and is open to all NHS non-executive directors, chairs and associate non-executive directors of NHS providers. Others may attend by special invitation. For further details, comments, questions and suggestions please contact: events@good-governance.org.uk.
