Board Assurance in a post pandemic NHS | Roundtable event with Allocate Software | 1 February 2023
02 January 2023
We are delighted to collaborate with Allocate Software for a virtual roundtable focusing on the 'Board Assurance in a post pandemic NHS' hosted on Zoom.
GGI has teamed up with RLDatix, the market leading provider of Allocate’s workforce solutions and the Datix risk management software to explore how assurance in the healthcare sector needs to be reframed for a fast-changing world.
The National Health Service is facing challenges like never before. Some are long-standing: high demand for urgent and emergency care, long waiting times for elective treatment, and difficulty in recruiting and retaining staff in a world where healthcare professionals are in short supply. Two years of a global pandemic made these existing problems even more acute. Other challenges are newer: inflation is eating away at budgets, large-scale industrial action is taking place across the NHS, and many healthcare workers feel burnt out from the long battle against Covid-19.
In the NHS, boards are required to seek assurance from management that their organisations are making progress towards national and local objectives, and that there is a solid plan to get back on track if this is not the case. Many board members may be asking how to do this at a time when it seems as if all the lights on the dashboard are flashing red. Managers, meanwhile, may feel frustrated about compiling ever more information and documentation for boards, commissioners and regulators when they are already working overtime just to keep the show on the road.
As part of our inquiry, GGI and Allocate software are organising a roundtable discussion for NHS directors – executive and non-executive – about how we can make board assurance work in 2023. We are facing much tougher times than just three or four years ago and so we need to focus our attention where it matters and will make the most difference. The real challenge is to work out is how we can do that. We will do so by seeking answers to six questions:
- What key priorities do healthcare providers need to focus on above all others, and what are the principal risks to achieving these priorities?
- Is there anything that we no longer need to monitor or measure, or can delegate to a lower level within our organisations?
- What do we need to gain assurance over, that we haven’t measured or monitored before?
- How do we make the best use of new technologies to provide assurance?
- How can we best gather qualitative data and intelligence to supplement what the numbers are telling us?
We hope that you can join us online on 1 February and help us to answer these pressing questions for the benefit of the NHS as a whole.
