High-performing boards: what they are and why they are important

03 October 2024

In this paper, GGI CEO Professor Andrew Corbett-Nolan and principal consultant Peter Allanson explore the concept of high-performing boards, arguing that they actively contribute to organisational success through productive leadership, forward-looking strategies, and a commitment to good governance.

Drawing on principles from the King Committee’s seminal King IV report, the authors highlight how high-performing boards can drive change, particularly during organisational transition. Key elements include fostering trust, accountability, and open dissent while aligning board actions with long-term strategic goals.

High-performing boards are essential for value creation, effective risk management, and achieving governance outcomes beyond regulatory compliance.
